Kalamazoo City Commission on May 11, 2026 approved three major items: (1) a project plan to apply for a $19 million DWSRF loan to finish lead service line replacements across the utility service area; (2) a MDOT-funded Portage Street 4-to-3 lane conversion with bike lanes; and (3) acceptance of a $3.225 million federal/state planning package to study railroad crossing eliminations and potential railyard relocation. Public comment raised concerns about ARPA spending, emergency communications during storms, flooding in the Southtown neighborhood and other neighborhood issues.
