The Dodge County Land Resources and Parks Committee held public hearings on Jan. 12, 2026, and granted preliminary conditional use permits for (1) a proposed 223.4‑acre nonmetallic (limestone) mine in the Town of Trenton and (2) Phase 2 of the Gold Star Memorial Trail linking Horicon to Beaver Dam. The mine drew numerous opposition comments about water, dust and road damage; the trail discussion focused on easements and farmer crossings but retained grant funding contingent on easements.
