Montclair is a city located in the Pomona Valley, in southwestern San Bernardino County, California, approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Known for its diverse community and convenient location near major transportation routes, Montclair offers a mix of residential neighborhoods and commercial activity. The city had a population of 37,865 in 2020. Montclair's economy is diverse, with major employment sectors including health care, retail trade, and manufacturing. The city is a regional shopping destination, featuring a variety of retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Montclair is also located in close proximity to several private and state universities and colleges. Montclair's history dates back to the Serrano tribe of Native Americans, who established a village along San Antonio Creek. The area was later part of a large land grant before transitioning to citrus orchards in the early 20th century. Incorporated as Monte Vista in 1956, the city was renamed Montclair in 1958 due to a naming conflict. Today, Montclair is a full-service city with its own police and fire departments.
