Orland, California, located in Glenn County, is the most populous city in the county. Situated in the northern Sacramento Valley, it's a rural agricultural town easily accessible via Interstate 5. Orland is known as the "Queen Bee Capital of North America" due to its significant queen bee production, and it hosts annual events like the Queen Bee Festival and OktoBEEfest. Orland's economy is supported by key industries including retail trade, healthcare, and manufacturing. The city was the namesake of one of the first irrigation projects by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the Orland Project, which continues to provide agricultural irrigation. Orland's history dates back to the 1840s, with the town officially established in 1875 and incorporated in 1909. The city played a role in World War II as a training airfield for pilots.
