Marysville

city

Marysville is the county seat of Yuba County, California, situated in the Gold Country region of Northern California, approximately 40 miles north of Sacramento in the Sacramento Valley. Known as the "Gateway to the Gold Fields," Marysville played a significant role during the California Gold Rush as a supply and shipping hub. The city is bordered by the Yuba and Feather Rivers, which converge just southwest of the city. The population in 2020 was 12,844. Marysville's economy is supported by agriculture, tourism, and some industrial development. Key employment sectors include health care, retail trade, and education. The city is working to improve its infrastructure, including upgrades to State Route 70 and the levee system that protects it from flooding. Marysville is known as "California's Oldest 'Little' City" due to its limited growth caused by the levee system built to protect it from floods. The city boasts a rich history, including one of the oldest Chinatowns in the U.S. and the Bok Kai Temple, which hosts an annual festival. Ellis Lake, a municipal park designed by John McLaren, provides recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
