Scottdale is a borough located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, approximately 32 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. As of 2026, the estimated population is around 4,283. Once a thriving industrial center, Scottdale has experienced economic changes, transitioning from a prosperous coke-town to a community within the Rust Belt. Historically, Scottdale was a hub for the Frick coke interests, featuring steel and iron pipe mills, brass and silver works, and other manufacturing. Today, the economy is supported by healthcare and retail sectors. Duraloy Technologies remains as a vestige of the borough's steel-related past. Scottdale's history is closely tied to the Pennsylvania Railroad and the coal industry. The Coal and Coke Bike Trail serves as a reminder of this heritage.
