The LaPorte County Board of Zoning Appeals on Aug. 21 approved a developmental‑standards variance allowing petitioner Matthew Eaton to create a 2.5‑acre frontage lot with about 200 feet of road access while leaving about 15.5 acres with approximately 45 feet of frontage and the existing long driveway to the rear home. The motion passed 3–2 after several board members said they were uncomfortable with the narrow residual frontage and long driveway length but the majority accepted Eaton’s explanation that the property is difficult for him to maintain and he wishes to downsize.
