News FeedsFree
Browse government news organized by location and topic

Feeds display articles and meeting summaries organized by geographic location. Each feed shows content from a specific jurisdiction—from your local city council to state legislature.

Location Hierarchy

Content is organized in a geographic hierarchy:

  • • National: Federal government, Congress, executive branch
  • • State: State legislature, governor, state agencies
  • • County: County commission, local courts, county services
  • • City/Town: City council, mayor, municipal services

Breadcrumb Navigation

Use the breadcrumb at the top of the page to navigate up and down the hierarchy. For example: United States → California → Los Angeles County → City of Los Angeles. Click any level to jump directly to that feed.

Feed Search & Navigation

Feed Search Bar

The search bar at the top of any feed lets you search within that location. As you type, a dropdown shows matching results organized into sections:

  • • Locations: Jump to another feed
  • • Topics: Filter the current feed by topic
  • • Articles: Matching articles with highlighted snippets
  • • Recent searches: Quickly re-run past queries

Change Location

Click the Change button next to the feed title to switch locations. This opens a dropdown with your recent feeds and a search box. You can also save multiple locations to your account for quick switching between cities.

Articles vs. Civic Meetings

Toggle between Articles and Civic Meetings using the switch at the top of the feed. Articles are AI-generated summaries of key topics. Civic Meetings show the original meeting records with discussion points, decisions, directions, and importance ratings.

Jurisdiction Chips

Below the feed title, clickable chips show the geographic hierarchy — city, county, state, and national levels. Click a chip to navigate to that level's feed. If you have multiple saved cities, the city chip opens a dropdown to switch between them.

Filtering Your Feed

By TopicSign in

Filter by topic area: Education, Housing, Transportation, Public Safety, Budget, Environment, and more. Topics are searchable with article counts shown. Requires a free account.

By KeywordSign in

Filter by specific keywords found in articles for your current location. Keywords show article counts so you can see how much content matches. Requires a free account.

By Government Level

Filter by level of government: Federal, State, County, City, or School District. Multiple levels can be selected at once. Available levels depend on the feed you're viewing.

By Date Range

Choose a preset range — Today, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, Last 12 Months — or set a custom start and end date.

Sort Order

Sort by Recent (newest first) or Newsworthy (ranked by local relevance, limited to the last 7 days).

Active Filters

Applied filters appear as chips above your feed. Click the X on any chip to remove it, or clear all filters at once. Filter state is saved in the URL so you can share filtered views.

Understanding Article Cards

Videos & Source MediaFree
Watch original government meeting recordings with AI enhancements

Many articles are generated from video recordings of government meetings. You can watch the original source material with AI enhancements like searchable transcripts, speaker identification, and timecoded highlights.

Video Player

Full video recording of the meeting with standard controls: play, pause, seek, volume, and fullscreen. Videos are hosted directly from official government sources when possible.

Searchable Transcript

Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to resolve them

I can't find my city or town

Not all jurisdictions are covered yet. Try searching for your county or state instead — they often include content from local cities. You can also request coverage by contacting us at [email protected].

Topic or keyword filters aren't showing

Topic and keyword filters require a free account. Sign in to unlock these features. If you're signed in and still can't see them, try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.

AI Chat says I've reached my limit

AI Chat messages are limited by plan tier and reset monthly. Check your remaining messages on your Account page. Consider upgrading your plan for more messages.

My alerts aren't generating notifications

Alerts trigger when new content matching your terms is published. If no new matching content has been published recently, you won't receive notifications. Try running your alert manually using the play button to search past content, or broaden your search terms.

Video isn't loading or playing

Videos are hosted from official government sources. If a video isn't loading, the original source may be temporarily unavailable. Try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, the source recording may have been removed by the originating government body.

I can't sign in to my account

Try resetting your password using the "Forgot Password" link on the sign-in page. Make sure you're using the same email address you registered with. If you continue having trouble, contact us at [email protected].

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the content come from?

We collect publicly available recordings of government meetings from city councils, county commissions, school boards, state legislatures, and federal agencies. Our AI analyzes these recordings to extract summaries, decisions, speakers, and key topics.

How accurate is the AI analysis?

Our AI is highly accurate but not perfect. For critical decisions, we recommend checking the original video or official records.

How often is content updated?

We continuously process new government meetings as they become available. Most content appears within 24-48 hours of the original meeting. Some jurisdictions may have delays based on when they publish recordings.

Can I suggest a government body to cover?

Yes! We're always expanding coverage. Contact our support team with details about the government body you'd like us to add, including links to their public meeting archives if available.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your search history, saved locations, and topic alerts are private to your account. We don't sell user data.

Do I need an account to use Citizen Portal?

No! You can browse all feeds, read articles, watch videos, and search content without an account. Creating a free account unlocks topic filtering, keyword search, and saved locations. Subscribing to a paid plan adds AI Chat, topic alerts, and additional features.

What's the difference between free and paid plans?

Free accounts can browse all content, filter by topic and keyword, and save locations. Paid plans add AI Chat (ask questions and get sourced answers), topic alerts (get notified about issues you care about), and higher limits on saved locations and alerts. Visit our pricing page for full details.

What jurisdictions and states are covered?

We cover city councils, county commissions, school boards, state legislatures, and federal agencies across the United States including territories. Coverage varies by area — major metropolitan areas have the most content. We're continuously expanding our coverage.
