Developer tells committee code tweaks will make adaptive reuse projects feasible

A representative of Emerald Fund told the committee the proposed exemptions for adaptive reuse will allow projects to move forward and cited 100 Van Ness conversion to 418 apartments as precedent.

Mark Babson, speaking for Emerald Fund during the committee's public comment period on item 2, said developers have converted underused offices into housing and that the current proposal includes necessary technical fixes to enable more projects. "San Francisco housing developers, we've built many thousands of units," Babson said, adding a specific example: "We converted 100 Van Ness into 418 apartments in 2015."
