Big Spring SD reports reading gains and readies for new structured‑literacy law
Director of Curriculum Instruction Mrs. Datada told the board that local assessments show growth across K–8 reading benchmarks and that the district already meets many requirements of the new state structured‑literacy law (Senate Bill 315, Act 47 of 2025).

Mrs. Datada, director of curriculum and instruction for Big Spring School District, opened with a districtwide snapshot of reading performance, saying she would present both proficiency and growth measures. "I'm here this evening ... to provide an update on academic performance both from a proficiency lens as well as a growth lens," she said.
