Dayton Commission fast-tracks $1.6B 2026 budget update, declaring it an emergency

The Dayton City Commission approved a 2nd revised 2026 appropriation totaling $1.6 billion, moving it forward as an emergency to accelerate water infrastructure, neighborhood projects and violence-reduction programs. Commissioners cited time-sensitive grants and the need to fund a city manager search and lead-service-line work.

The Dayton City Commission on Tuesday moved the 2nd revised 2026 appropriation to immediate effect and approved the City Manager's recommendations. Abby Patel Jones, the city’s Director of Management and Budget, told commissioners the proposed 2nd revised appropriation totals $1,600,000,000, an increase of $38,600,000 or 2.4% from the prior revision.
