Scott Park told the commission that cremation services for indigent decedents are a state‑required expense and that costs are running higher than budgeted. "State statute requires that we provide cremation services... we're just trending a little bit higher than expected," Park said, noting an average cost of roughly $600 per cremation and a projected overrun that prompted a request of about $4,000 to cover the year.
