Mayor Joe Steer told the council that following public concern over automatic license‑plate readers (ALPRs), he asked the police chief and sheriff to temporarily remove the equipment until the legislature addresses data‑sharing and control. He said the city does not have equipment costs broken out in the police contract and that more legislative clarity is needed before the city adopts a permanent position.
