The full story

Robin Momayer told the town board during public comment that automated license-plate readers (ALPRs) produce frequent errors and can lead to wrongful stops and mistaken accusations. She cited vendor and agency error figures, saying data the town previously reported showed 100,000,000 reads in nine months and that current reads may now exceed 250,000,000. Using a 7% optical-character-recognition error rate and a 10% state-ID misread rate, she warned those rates could translate to millions of incorrect matches in the town's database.
