The secretary said the administration expects next-generation nuclear units to begin continuous electricity generation within about a year and predicted industrial uses such as powering data centers by 2028. He said four next-generation, non-light-water reactors were expected to have gone critical and described both small modular reactors and measures to restart larger reactor projects.
