Construction updates: Hills Road bridge delayed, Larkin Road closure for replacement; crossing request denied

Sep 9, 2026

County highway staff updated the TSC on ongoing projects: County D safety improvements remain underway, the Hills Road bridge replacement had not started as of the meeting (despite an earlier estimate), Larkin Road bridge replacement will require closures through Nov. 2027, and a requested pedestrian crossing at 9 Mile Tavern was denied for lack of crash history.

Randy, introduced as the traffic safety engineer, reviewed construction projects and an operational safety assessment. He said County D is undergoing a 10.3‑mile safety improvement near Phillips that remains underway. He told the commission the Hills Road bridge replacement—estimated for June 2026—had not started and the contractor (Pfeiffer Brothers) had not completed the submittal in time for paving windows, raising uncertainty about whether the bridge could be constructed this year.
