A volunteer firefighter in the room said he was worried the new allocation method could divert money from local departments to township trustees. "I'm a volunteer firefighter," the speaker said, and described a hypothetical: the township trustee might report a $50,000 budget and see $15,000 of new levy funds routed through the trustee rather than directly to the department, leaving departments to make up the difference.
