County approves Verkada camera upgrade and access changes for Juvenile Services Office

After a security incident at the Juvenile Services Office, commissioners agreed to replace the decade-old cameras with a Verkada system and pursue an Office of Emergency Management grant to cover part of the cost; staff also approved buying an ID card printer for employee access FOBs.

County Attorney Vic Pearson briefed the board on an incident at the Juvenile Services Office that prompted proposals to limit back-door access to employees and create a holding area for clients at the front door. TJ Burbank said current cameras are over 10 years old and Dispatch cannot see inside the building; two bids were presented — one to reuse current cameras and another to replace them with a Verkada system. Lamont Doney (Civil Defense) said a $10,000 grant from the Idaho Office of Emergency Management is available to help pay for security upgrades.
