Bloomington hires Safe Step for sidewalk repairs, commits $5,000 for 2026
The board approved a $5,000 contract with Safe Step Safe Sidewalk Solutions to grind and repair hazardous sidewalk lips in 2026, prioritizing the most dangerous areas and returning to the board with recommendations about removing certain sidewalks.

Director of Public Works Leitzinger presented the Safe Step Safe Sidewalk Solutions program used in neighboring communities. He said Safe Step typically begins with a $5,000 commitment and grinds and repairs as many hazardous spots as possible, recommending full replacement only where grinding is insufficient. "Most towns start with a $5,000 commitment, and the company fixes as many sidewalks as they can for that amount, focusing on the most dangerous areas first," Leitzinger said.
