After hours of debate about enforcement gaps and fears of overreach, Kendall County commissioners directed two members to work with staff, general counsel and the district attorney to develop procedures and peer comparisons for a possible future code compliance officer and fee/budget options.

Commissioners debated whether to create a dedicated code compliance officer to enforce Kendall County development regulations and protect public safety but stopped short of hiring midyear. The proposal, brought by Commissioner Chapman, was driven by staff reports of repeated development and septic violations and by warnings from general counsel that inconsistent enforcement could risk the county's ability to uphold its rules.
