Planning Commission backs Southeast Area Plan changes to preserve low-density character

Staff recommended, and the commission approved, amendments to the Southeast Community Area Plan that would reclassify multiple properties to 'residential estate' to protect the area's large-lot, rural residential character; an affected property owner spoke in favor of the change.

Anna Harkins of the Planning Department presented a request to amend the Southeast Community Area Plan from low‑ and medium‑density residential to residential estate for multiple properties, saying the updates aim to reflect current development and reduce potential for higher-density uses. "The proposed land use changes... are intended to create a clear, more compatible pattern of development," Harkins said while recommending approval.
