Vernon County launched Driftless Bound, a WEDC-funded talent recruitment program offering up to $2,500 for renters and up to $12,500 (5% of purchase) for buyers/builders who relocate from out of state; county staff say the program complements, not replaces, local support for current residents.

Amy Oliver, Vernon County community development director, detailed 'Driftless Bound,' a workforce attraction program funded primarily through a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) talent recruitment grant. She said Vernon County received competitive grant money and set aside $125,000 in local incentives. "If you want to rent a property here in Vernon County, you're eligible for the equivalent of the required security deposit plus 1st month's rent up to $2,500," Oliver said. For buyers or builders, the program offers 5% of purchase price up to $12,500 to use toward down payment or other equity contributions.
