NECCOG director reports animal-control service changes; towns press for bonding help

The Director told members of an anticipated discontinuation of regional animal-control service and a planned notification to outside towns that service will end June 30, 2026; towns signaled support for pursuing bonding for a new facility and said they would provide testimony.

NECCOG's Director reported on animal-control service challenges, saying a Woodstock case is pending at the appellate level with a favorable decision expected and that towns have expressed difficulty securing alternative providers on short notice. Staff reported one supervisor has resigned and the position will not be refilled given the anticipated reduction in towns served; notification letters to towns outside NECCOG regarding the end of service on June 30, 2026 will be sent after the election.
