Commissioners split over insider vs. outside interim after sheriff's suspension
Burke County commissioners were divided over whether to pick an internal or outside interim sheriff; a nomination failed for lack of majority before the board approved Brad Capitosti as interim.

Commissioner Q. U. "Art" Lively nominated Brad Capitosti to serve as Interim Sheriff, and Chair Evans Martin expressed support for that nomination. Commissioner Terri Lodge Kelly said she preferred Lee Webster. Commissioners Rodney Braswell and R. Tommy Nix stated a preference for an outside candidate who would operate independently of the board but offered no additional nominations.
