Committee members discussed desalination as a local option for wells affected by saltwater intrusion, but county staff flagged code constraints and potential downsides. "San Juan County code does not allow desalination of well water that is experiencing seawater intrusion," said Vicky Heater, noting large withdrawal volumes for desalination can increase intrusion.
