State correction ombuds reports nearly 2,000 complaints; health services top concern

Attorney Devon Ward told the Correction Advisory Committee the Office of the Correction Ombuds received 1,974 complaints since October 2025, closed 1,414, and identified health services as the largest complaint category. Ward said the office has expanded staff and will publish further findings on outpatient scheduling and litigation costs.

Attorney Devon Ward, the state correction ombuds, presented the office's semiannual report to the Correction Advisory Committee on June 3 and said the office received 1,974 complaints since it began cataloguing cases in October 2025 and had closed 1,414 by June 3.
