Building permits remain high; EMA reports 9,200 signed up for county alerts
The Building Department reported 1,614 inspections in August and receipts $290,000 ahead of 2025; EMA said 9,200 citizens are signed up for the new mass notification system and grants are nearing full expenditure.

Chief Building Official Matt Strehle told the board that August produced 1,614 inspections — the second-highest monthly total in the past six years — and that total receipts for the year are $290,000 ahead of the same period in 2025. Strehle attributed part of the activity to new home construction in Montville Township and reported the department has returned to five inspectors following a recent hire.
