The House Ways and Means Committee voted to favorably report HR 5439, a pilot program to reimburse selected hospitals for medically tailored home-delivered meals and associated medical nutrition therapy for certain Medicare beneficiaries after hospital discharge. Sponsors said the pilot would select at least 40 hospitals nationwide, prioritize rural and underserved hospitals in the application process, and rigorously evaluate health outcomes and readmission rates.
