The Emanuel County Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 17 to begin the process of considering a closure of Rheney Road, authorizing advertisement of the proposal and scheduling a public hearing during the Board's September 2026 meeting. The motion to start the process was made by Commissioner Ricky Thompson and seconded by Vice Chairman Timmy Oliver; the minutes record the vote as five in favor and none opposed.
