Work group flags technical problems in including emergency medical providers in relief associations

Members and staff reviewed Seeberger bill 4766 (2A), which would require relief associations to cover emergency medical providers (EMPs). The group identified conflicts with EMPs currently in Para's defined-contribution plan, and discussed options including allowing dual participation, moving EMPs into reliefs only, or legislative fixes to portability.

A draft amendment to the Seeberger bill (4766, 2A) would expand relief-association coverage to include emergency medical providers (EMPs) and apply the same rules to state life and Para plans. Susan (staff member) noted the bill’s expansion raises technical questions about EMPs already in Para’s defined-contribution (DC) plan and whether those EMPs may remain in both plans.
