PACE Center opening delayed to Jan. 25 after utility and procurement problems
Board staff announced the PACE Center renovation, originally scheduled to open in August, will open Jan. 25, 2027, citing three primary causes: Dominion Energy transformer/infrastructure requirements, missing security/intercom scope in city bid documents, and city procurement delays that left vendors without 90% purchase orders despite the division issuing 10% POs.

Superintendent Dr. Bracey told the board that the PACE Center, expected to open for the 2026--27 school year, will be delayed. "We were eagerly awaiting, anticipating, for Monday, August 24," he said, but staff now project a January 25 opening for the second semester.
