Board approves engineering reclassifications and higher salary ranges to recruit technical staff
Modoc County approved a suite of reclassifications across the engineering job series (technician through senior civil engineer) effective Aug. 1, 2026, aimed at creating a career ladder and improving recruitment and retention for road and airport engineering functions.

Mitch Crosby, from the Road Department, told the board on July 28 that the county is updating class specifications and salary ranges across the engineering series to reflect current functional needs and to create a clearer career path up to professional engineer-level positions. The package included changes for engineering technician 1 & 2, engineering resource analyst 1 & 2, assistant engineer, associate engineer and senior civil engineer, with the board approving the reclassifications and effective dates.
