ABR, landscape team highlight added screening and stormwater changes for Rivian site

Landscape architect and ABR reported the revised design reduces frontage parking, increases street trees and a meadow in the RPZ, and uses quadrant bioretention basins for stormwater; ABR found the revisions generally compatible and requested additional detail at final ABR review.

Chris Gillen, the project landscape architect, walked commissioners through design changes made in response to ABR input: removal of several frontage parking spaces in favor of expanded planting strips and trees along Hollister, a small display plaza (described as a "jewel box" showroom area), and a seeded meadow in the runway protection zone seeded with native grasses and wildflowers under temporary irrigation. Gillen described a stormwater approach that divides the site into four drainage quadrants, each flowing to a bioretention basin that will be resized to reflect the reduced parking footprint.
