Supervisor opened the meeting and read a proclamation recognizing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, honoring children and families affected by cancer and urging community support. The proclamation cited national figures from the American Cancer Society, saying "over 9,500 children under the age 15 and nearly 5,500 teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19" were diagnosed last year and that "more than 1,000 of these young patients are likely to succumb to the disease" within the next year.
