Skate park plan aims to leverage quarry setting with accessible features

Sep 24, 2026

Designers proposed a skate park built largely at grade in the former quarry at Claxton Field, with technical alley features, ledges, two quarter pipes, spectator areas and accessible ramps; the team warned specialized contractors may be needed for construction.

The full story

The skate park design presented Sept. 24 emphasizes the quarry setting and accessibility: features include a spine of technical alley elements, capped granite ledges, steel ledges, brick-textured concrete, bank-to-curb elements, manual pads, round-wall pockets and two returned quarter pipes (about 3–4 feet in height). Designers said the park will be built largely above grade because rock and quarry constraints prevent deep excavation for bowls.
