The Planning Commission approved a variance for a widened carport at 1012 Dunton Street after staff concluded excavation to meet standard setbacks would require hillside stabilization and add more than 10% to project cost.

The commission approved Resolution 4554 granting a carport setback variance for Lot 7, Block 6, US Survey 437 at 1012 Dunton Street. Planning staff explained the property has a steep elevation change between the house and parking and that moving the carport farther back would require rock excavation and stabilization that the applicant’s materials indicate would increase project cost by more than 10 percent.
