Las Animas County approved a memorandum of understanding with Illuminate on June 17 to establish the Safe Babies Court Program locally. Attorney Pamela Nelson told the board the program is intended to provide specialized services designed to keep children birth to three years old with their parents when safe to do so; the model coordinates courts, child welfare and community providers.
