Board asks whether vendor agreements stop AI models from using district data; CIO says contracts prohibit training use

During Q&A, trustees worried that commercial AI tools have had breaches and might use school data for training; CIO David Den said the agreements forbid vendors from using division data to train their models and reiterated guidance not to input identifiable student information.

Board member Rogers and others raised concerns that third-party AI tools have experienced security incidents and could expose student or staff data. Den said entering into division agreements changes the rules compared with individual consumer accounts: "The contract specifically says that as opposed to the free accounts, neither of these vendors are allowed to use our data as a part of their training of their AI or to share it with any other entity." He also reiterated existing guidance that staff should not input sensitive or identifiable student information into these platforms.
