Committee OKs updated Social Security number privacy policy

Staff presented a revised SSN policy that defines SSN data as full nine-digit numbers or more than four sequential digits, updates statutory references and extends the review cycle from two to three years; the committee approved forwarding the policy to the full board.

Staff said the updated privacy policy consolidates multiple area-specific rules into a single policy and clarifies the definition of SSN data as ‘‘all nine digits of an individual’s Social Security number or more than four sequential digits.’’ The update also corrects statutory and administrative references and changes the policy review cycle from two to three years.
