Apr 22, 2026
Commission minutes record that city budget pressures may prompt the City Council to enact PA 164 by ordinance, converting the Library Commission into a Library Board that could levy an unvoted one mill (estimated $225,000–$250,000) to help fund a roughly $400,000 annual library budget.
The full story
The Center Line Public Library Commission recorded at a special April 22 meeting that the library will likely undergo organizational and funding changes because of a structural deficit in the City. The minutes say the City Council may enact "PA 164" by ordinance; if that occurs the commission would become a Library Board and could generate an unvoted one-mill levy to support library operations. One mill in Center Line was estimated in the minutes at about $225,000 to $250,000, while the librarybudget was recorded as roughly $400,000 annually.
