Supervisors approve midyear merit changes after staff modelling shows cost uncertainty

Mar 3, 2026

Board approved a midyear merit increase (additional 2% over baseline) after finance staff discussed per‑1% cost estimates and corrected earlier figures; staff said each 1% midyear merit costs roughly $132,000 in initial modelling and later revised the per‑1% figure to $161,000 during discussion.

The full story

Supervisors approved an adjustment to the county's nonbargaining compensation assumptions, moving to a midyear merit assumption that counts an additional 2% over the model's baseline. Finance staff said each 1% midyear merit increase would cost roughly $132,000 under their initial model, and that increasing midyear merit from 1% to a total 3% would cost about $265,000 in that scenario.
