At the March 25 public hearing, Finance Director Dana Aschenbrenner said the county’s debt-service tax asking for fiscal 2027 is proposed to increase about 12.9%, an estimated $2.6 million rise to roughly $22.5 million. Aschenbrenner attributed the increase to higher loan principal retirement and rising interest costs: "the increase in fiscal year 27 proposed debt service tax askings is due to about $3,000,000 more for loan principal retirement costs and interest cost increases of 125,000 when compared to the original budget for this current fiscal year," he said.
