The board reviewed urban county coalition priorities and planned a process to narrow 2026 county legislative priorities; later the board moved, seconded (Remington; Sullivan) and approved a motion 4–0 to enter a closed session pursuant to Iowa Code section 21.5 to evaluate an individual's professional competency.

Chair moved the meeting into business from the board office and opened discussion of state and federal legislative issues, including Urban County Coalition matters and pending legislation affecting Johnson County representation. Staff member said the county would largely keep its existing legislative priorities and would compile finance and fund-mandate information to support lobbyists and prepare a pared list of 3–6 priorities for 2026 to present around October.
