At the Burke County work session April 2, Steve Stierwalt, GEMA Area 3 Field Coordinator, briefed commissioners and staff on the state agency’s response during Hurricane Helene, focusing on difficulties getting supplies into the affected area. Stierwalt also provided information on IPAWS as an alerting mechanism and advised county staff on the correct process for submitting resource requests to GEMA through the county’s EMA office.
