Library launches countywide passport program, boosts security funding after uptick in incidents

Onondaga County Public Library launched an OCPL passport program across 32 branches, expanded outreach (barbershop books, social media), and requested higher professional‑services funding mainly to pay for increased security at central and White Branch libraries; the library will use 2025 unspent funds to offset part of 2027 costs.

Amanda Perrine, executive director of the Onondaga County Public Libraries, described new initiatives and a modest shift in the 2027 budget to cover program growth and security. "We have recently launched our OCPL passport program, which rewards our community members for visiting all 32 of our public libraries," Perrine said. She also highlighted the barbershop books partnership that now reaches beauty salons as well as barbershops.
