Wayne County DPS details township paving participation, $6.1M still available

Wayne County DPS told commissioners it has spent $7.46 million of the first-phase township paving funds and that $900,000 of phase-two funds is claimed, leaving about $6.1 million available; the program requires a 1:1 local match and remaining phase-two funds will be offered first-come, first-served.

Director Tayo Akhirmi of Wayne County Department of Public Services told the commission the township paving initiative was set up with two $7 million phases, a $14 million total program requiring a 1:1 township match. Akhirmi said phase 1 offered about $1,000,000 per township with some communities taking the full allocation while others accepted partial amounts.
