The Local Planning Agency voted to approve proposed Land Development Code amendments to Chapter 6 that align county floodplain rules with FEMA guidance and the Florida Building Code. Billy Jacoby, flood plain administrator for Unincorporated Lee County, said the changes would allow an administrative variance for nonhabitable at-grade accessory structures larger than the Florida Building Code’s 600-square-foot at-grade threshold but under FEMA limits. "FEMA provides for an administrative variance option to allow at grade accessory structures between 601 and 1200 square feet with specific limitations spelled out in draft language," Jacoby said.
