How to read Indian Wells' cell-coverage map

May 19, 2026

City staff explained the map's four signal-strength categories—Excellent, Good, Cell and Cell Edge—how to toggle carrier layers for AT&T, Verizon and T‑Mobile, and how to check unlisted locations by selecting nearby address points.

The full story

The city official walked through how the map classifies signal strength using four categories and what each means for callers and data users. The official said, "Signal strength is categorized into 4 categories based on decibel milliwatts, the absolute power of a cellular signal," and then described the four labels: "Excellent. A strong connection with the fastest possible data speeds." "Good. A solid connection with good data speeds for streaming, browsing, and calls." "Cell. Your connection might still work, but data speeds may be slower and dropouts may occur." "Cell Edge. Your phone will have a hard time connecting, resulting in dropped calls and no Internet access."
