A Washoe County Sheriff's Office representative told the Verdi CAB that the department is developing a "DFR" (drone as first responder) program that uses FAA-certified deputies to pilot drones for rapid scene assessment. The office used a recent vehicle-burglary case to illustrate response times: the deputy-run drone launched and was on scene within 45 seconds and helped deputies locate a suspect more quickly than vehicle response alone.
