Washtenaw County’s health equity manager described a decade-long Community Voices program, staff training from U-M partnerships, and a Michigan Health Endowment Fund grant for capacity building that supports outreach and the county’s community health assessment.

Caroline, the health equity manager at the Washtenaw County Health Department, told the board the department has spent the last several years building internal systems to center equity in public-health work. She said the department worked with University of Michigan public health partners and used published best practices to design staff trainings and a facilitation curriculum for community engagement.
